While Fes is often coined the artisanal center of Morocco, Sefrou’s artisanal culture predates its neighbor and goes back to a time when the city was a main trading post between the Mediterranean and Sahara.
Today Sefrou remains the home to many artisans and shopkeepers and continues to be well-known for producing djellaba buttons. A ten minute walk from Bab El Maqam inside the old medina rests Hudaddine Square, an area where you will find weavers, blacksmiths, button makers, ironers, and tinsmiths.

Hudaddine Square is an excellent place to find traditional Berber rugs, pottery, and clothing. The area also hosts a range of tailors and cobblers who can make adjustments to your purchases. Even more, the calm and intimate environment of the square and old medina makes for a relaxing alternative to the overwhelming Fes Medina.
